Deploy your First React App

Prerequisites

  • Node and NPM (Node Package Manager) must be installed
  • An account on Github (Really simple to create one if you don’t have one)
  • Basic command line experience

Let’s Get Started

The first thing we will need to do is open a terminal/command prompt (depending on your OS). After you have done this you are going to want to go ahead and navigate to the directory where you want your project to live and run this command.

npx create-react-app my-first-app
cd my-first-app

Time to Deploy our Code to the Web

So the first step is to create an account on Netlify. I find it easiest to simply sign in with Github, but you can also use your email if you would like. After you create an account you will be greeted with a quick-start guide. You can go ahead and read that or close it out.

Wrap Up

Netlify is an amazing tool which provides so much more than I have shown you today. It allows you to easily deploy to a custom domain, automatically encrypt your sites with ssl certificates, and also auto deploys code to your site upon pushing new code to your repository. Feel free to experiment and have fun with it though. Netlify is extremely simple to learn yet incredibly expansive in what you can do with it.
